About
Gríma Irmudóttir is a documentary filmmaker, producer, cinematographer, and impact strategist based between Chicago and Reykjavík. In 2022, she directed Heima, a series for Icelandic public television exploring what home means in a rapidly changing world. Her short film Náttúrubönd (2023) offers a meditative inquiry into the human relationship with the Icelandic landscape, following four individuals as they navigate grief, connection, and ecological loss, and has screened internationally.
Her recent film Minningaspor / Memory Traces (2025) received the Sólveig Anspach Award for Directing (2026) and Best Icelandic Short at the Reykjavík International Film Festival (2025) and is currently on an international festival run. She has also worked as a producer on feature documentaries, including The Day Iceland Stood Still (2024).
She completed her MFA in Documentary Media at Northwestern University as a Fulbright, American Scandinavian Foundation, and Leifur Eiríksson Foundation fellow.
